Suryakumar Yadav Hints at IPL Captaincy Ahead of First T20I in Gwalior
As the Indian cricket team prepares for the first T20I in Gwalior, Suryakumar Yadav dropped an intriguing hint about a potential future role as an Indian Premier League (IPL) captain. In a lighthearted conversation with reporters, Surya shared his thoughts on IPL captaincy when asked if he is ready for the responsibility.
“Aapne googly daal diya. Aage dekhte hain. Baaki aapko pata toh chal hee jayega (You have bowled a googly. Let’s see what happens in the future. You guys will get to know about it),” he said, laughing off the question but leaving room for speculation.
Enjoying Leadership Experience
This upcoming series will mark Suryakumar’s fourth as captain, and the 34-year-old is relishing his leadership role. Reflecting on his previous experiences under the leadership of Rohit Sharma with Mumbai Indians, Surya mentioned how he used to offer insights and suggestions during games.
“I really enjoy this new role. When I played under Rohit bhai’s captaincy in Mumbai Indians, I used to give my inputs. I have also captained in series against Sri Lanka, Australia, and South Africa. I’ve learned a lot from different captains about leading a team forward,” Surya added.
Mayank Yadav’s Expected Debut
Indian pacer Mayank Yadav is set to make his debut, and Suryakumar has expressed confidence in the young speedster’s abilities. Despite concerns over Mayank’s fitness, Surya reassured that the fast bowler is ready for action.
“Mayank has an X factor with his extra pace. I haven’t faced him in the nets, but he is special. It’s a great opportunity for youngsters like him. He is fully fit and ready,” Surya confirmed.
Sanju Samson to Open the Innings
Suryakumar also disclosed that Sanju Samson will be opening the innings alongside Abhishek Sharma throughout the three-match T20I series.
“Sanju Samson will open the innings. He will play as an opener in all the matches,” Surya confirmed during the media interaction.
Pitch Favors Batters
The newly-constructed Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior is expected to offer a batter-friendly pitch, according to Surya. After observing the practice pitches, he is optimistic that the main pitch will provide an exciting contest.
“The wicket looks great so far. The practice pitches have been fantastic, and I expect the main pitch to be competitive and favor the batters,” he said.
