Cummins Misses Champions Trophy to Focus on Recovery
Australia’s Test and ODI captain, Pat Cummins, was forced to miss the ongoing Champions Trophy as he continues to recover from an ankle injury. The right-arm pacer sustained the injury during the Test series against India earlier this year and has since been undergoing rehabilitation.
Looking Ahead to IPL Comeback
Despite missing the Champions Trophy, Cummins remains optimistic about making a full recovery in time for the Indian Premier League (IPL). He is set to rejoin Sunrisers Hyderabad, the team he helped reach the finals in last year’s tournament. The fast bowler believes this break will be beneficial for his long-term fitness and performance.
“The Ankle is Strong Again,” Says Cummins
In an interview with ESPNcricinfo, Cummins provided an update on his recovery, expressing confidence in his progress.
“The ankle is all going strong. I’ve been able to give it a good rest and slowly build back up, which is rare when you’re playing constantly,” he said.
“It’s feeling as strong as it has in a long time. The plan is to return for the IPL after a few weeks of bowling and conditioning.”
Strategic Rest to Extend Career
Cummins revealed that he and the team management opted against surgery, choosing instead to focus on rehab and non-invasive treatments. He received cortisone injections and has been undergoing structured rehabilitation to strengthen the ankle. The Australian skipper also acknowledged the importance of managing workload in modern cricket.
“Sometimes, missing a tour means you actually end up playing more cricket across the year. In the past, players were expected to play everything, but now it’s about maintaining peak performance for the most crucial tournaments.”
Preparing for the World Test Championship Final
Beyond the IPL, Cummins has another major goal in sight—the World Test Championship final against South Africa in June. His recovery plan is designed to ensure he is fully fit for that crucial match.
As he gears up for his IPL return, Australian fans will be hoping to see Cummins back at his best, leading both his franchise and national team to success in 2025.(Dubai7-Realmoneygame)
