In an effort to avoid a direct airtime clash with the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has decided to schedule its matches one hour later, starting at 8:00 PM (PST). IPL games typically begin at 7:00 PM, and this timing shift is meant to give PSL its own dedicated viewership slot.
First-Ever Schedule Overlap Between PSL and IPL
This marks the first time in history that both leagues will run simultaneously. PSL CEO Salman Naseer explained on a podcast that they had no other choice but to hold the league during April-May due to a packed earlier calendar. “It’s not ideal, but we’re confident that PSL has a loyal fan base,” he said.

Despite the timing challenge, Naseer believes that fans will continue to tune in for high-quality cricket. “The PSL has always delivered exciting, competitive matches, and this year will be no different,” he said.

Looking ahead, the PSL is set to expand, with two new teams possibly joining the tournament as early as next year. Naseer confirmed that multiple parties have shown interest in acquiring new franchises.
Internal Conflicts Should Be Handled Privately
Responding to recent public criticism by some franchise owners, Naseer stressed the importance of private communication. “Everyone has benefited from PSL. It’s better to speak directly with us instead of airing issues publicly,” he said.
New 10-Year Franchise Deal Offered
To strengthen long-term cooperation, all existing franchises will be offered a new 10-year contract. Each owner can choose whether to accept the revised terms or not.
